Is it possible to purchase pure baking soda from Home Depot, heat it up in an oven to make sodium carbonate and take that to competition?

No chemical changes should be made to an item, which includes turning basking soda into sodium bicarbonate.  Baking soda may be used if it can be found at Home Depot but it should not be altered before the competition.
