Washing of materials is only allowed if the washing involves only the wastewater and no outside water or liquid source AND as long as the washing does not noticeably reduce the amount of wastewater being filtered through your treatment system. In other words, the washing cannot significantly reduce the 8 gallons of wastewater given to you. Also, please inform the judge supervising your team of what you plan to do for the 2-minute free period so there is no disputing your actions and so the judge does not automatically disqualify you for something he/she thinks is illegal.
