What type of color and iron tests that will be performed the day of the competition?

Color Test:  The Hach CO-1 test kit using the Color disc/APHA Platinum – Cobalt method will be used to measure the color of the treated water samples.  If a treated water samples is outside of the range of the test kit, it will be diluted as necessary to obtain a reading using the color test kit.

Score = number of dilutions * max color units on test kit scale + color units of sample

Example:

The max color units on the color test kit are 500.  Sample 1 does not need diluted, so the color units are read from the test kit as 165.  Sample 1’s final score is 0*500 + 165 = 165.  Sample 2 is diluted twice and the diluted sample then has color unit reading of 35.  Sample 2’s final score will be 2*500 + 35 = 1035.  Points will then be assigned as specified in Section J) d) of the 2012 ASCE Mid-Pac Conference Environmental Competition Rules.

Iron Test:  A colorimetric analysis using the aromatic dye ferrozine will be used to measure the total dissolved Fe(II) in treated water samples.  Points will then be assigned as specified in Section J) d) of the 2012 ASCE Mid-Pac Conference Environmental Competition Rules.
